It looks like blogger is doing a better job finally with allowing me to attach pictures which is really what I want to use this for basically.

I stitch in a rotation and this year, as every year I make changes to try to be more productive. I stitch slowly but am trying this year to be more consistent with my stitching. So currently I do one thread a day on a WIP, rotate weekly on 4 different projects and do a different Saturday and Sunday piece. I am slowly participating in 3 SAL's slowly but continue to work on them.

First up in my one thread a day piece. February began Winter Cross Stitch Camp with Colorado Cross Stitcher on YouTube and shop of that name. I did a BBD freebie Petites Lettres Rouge from their blog 2009. I used Camelot's Lady a deep rose color that looks red in the photo but which is a rose shade that I favor. The fabric is antique white 32 count Belfast. I so enjoyed this piece. Sad to see it finished but YAY my first finish of 2022. Will frame it if I can find a frame for it. They are hard to come by up here.

Next I pulled out the Quaker Turtles to replace it from the WIP pile, it had gone into time out because I thought I had a counting error and could not find it. After forever in the black hole of WIP land I looked at it and could not find anything wrong with it so I put in the rotation as my once a day stitch for an hour piece. I have one half of one shell done as each shell has two pieces. So I raided my stash and found two colors of needle necessities I have used before and know they look good together so I pulled those out and into the future small start bag I keep at the ready.

One new thing I started this year is doing stocking Saturday. It was a thing long ago in a totally different platform of message boards and I did Kathy Barricks Quaker Stocking because in my world it is stitch all the Quakers. They are by far my favorite comfort stitch. The next on I decided to pull out and finally revive, at least for me, is Stocking Saturday. It allows me to pull other a new start and at least get a few hours a week. Our weekends are super busy so not as much stitching time as I do during the week. This chart is being stitched On Elegant Bean Linens 40 count from Lady Dot Creates on Etsy. This is my go to linen and was super excited when Lois started adding it to her shop.

On Sunday I am following Lori Holt's lead and stitching a Sabbath Stitch. On one of her last cross stitch floss tube's she discussed doing a Sabbath Stitch and a Christmas stitch on the 25th of the month. I chose a huge piece (no surprise there) that I am using for both and Started a Nativity design from Stoney Creek that I saw someone stitching years ago. Sadly I was not able to ever connect with that lady again to see her finish. I had the chart and it is stitched in what fills like hundreds of DMC but I have a lot of DMC so I kitted it up. It was my Christmas Day start in 2021 and has continued as my Sabbath Stitch and my 25th of the month stitch.

Next up in the weekly rotation is Winter from Cross eyed Cricket. Next week in my rotation is Houses of Hawk Run Hollow. This is a very stitch dense project but it the perfect piece for me to pick up when I just have a few minutes to stitch or when I am stitching on a Zoom call because it is so much fill in with the same color. This is my current progress from the beginning of February. I am enjoying this on as well on Lakeside Linen, which is my second favorite fabric and am fortunate to have a stash of it. Still have the bottom to fill in with one color that I am leaving for a phone time or just pick up time during that week as well as the regular rotation stitching. This is using NPI silk and fabric as called for on the chart.

And last but not least is my Sampler of Stitches from the Drawn Thread kitted up long ago with called for linen and silks. Courtesy of Zoom I was able to attend a gathering at Winterthur Museum where there were several lectures and live panels that we could send in questions to the panel and they could respond. It was great to someone like me who love the history of stitching but is fairly isolated from that type of education where I live. I have also been able to attend several meetings of a Sampler group I below to in another state and I love it. I have gotten to meet a bunch of people that I had seen their names in the newsletter and have people to stitch with that have similar interests in samplers. I have an absolutely lovely group of ladies I stitch with in Alaska that meet most every week to stitch and chat. Even though many of our members have moved away we discovered Zoom and once a month we get together whoever can join in and chat. It has been wonderful for us to be able to do that. I am blessed I know but it has been fun to expand to different types of stitching as well. I am also attending another presentation by a group call Relics in situ online who offer lectures in regards to needlework. This one offered a small kit of one of the projects for I got that from their Etsy shop. It is all very interesting to me. This is the kit I am getting this time.

I am also joining in for two classes with the Shining Needle Society an online educational group. One is with Catherine Theron and it is a strawberry purse piece. and the other is an annual Christmas ornament that is offered by Barbara Jackson and it is a Colonial Pineapple ornament. I will share a picture when the kit arrives. None of these kits are large and they give me a break from the really bigger designs I always gravitate toward.

My focus piece continues to be Mary Wigham. I so want her on my very small Quaker wall. Once I realized it was on 45 count linen and not 40 it made sense to me why I was struggling a bit since normally I don't have any issue with 40 count linen. 45 is a different ball of wax for me and I have to be sure I am counting the threads correctly. This is where I am currently. I love it. I love the feel of the fabric, and the colors of the threads. I can never get quite the right colors in my photos but in real life the colors chosen by the Attic Needlework ladies are just lovely. I wish I had started a needlework notebook for keeping details way longer ago but moving forward I will be able to look all these things up.

So I am having ongoing issues with blogger. I found that as I was updating the links and lists on the sideline that someone had imbedded in my list of blogs I follow a non stitching link that I did not subscribe to. When I went under my tools to delete it that blog was not on the list but the link was definitely there when I went back. I tried cleaning up the list but that one persisted at the top of the list so for now I have deleted it because it was not a blog I wanted linked to my blog in anyway. I will add that feature back on once I figure out how to make sure that doesn't happen. My apologies to anyone who clinked on a link and went to a non stitching related blog that I did not subscribe to.

Back to rotation update. I am continuing with the current rotation until the end of the year with class pieces thrown in and will update with pictures as I go. Hope you have some stitch time in your day. The current very loose rotation I am working on is And They Sinned spurred on by so many recent finishes or near finishes from folks I follow on Instagram. So this is where I started this rotation in April. I have worked on it on and off until yesterday when I decided it was time to move on.

and this is where I ended up: this is the end of the first page which is equivalent to 2 regular pages for most charts.

The next thing I have in my rotation is Mary Wigham from Needleprint. This is a freebie from JABCO if you bought the buttons. It is the December teacup of 12 months of teacups. There is also a series for teapots that I got offered as kits from Drema from Needlecraft Corner. She often has little kits offered on her site and since my stitching friends and I always had tea when we met it only seemed fitting to get these kits. She has quite a few SB kits of their freebie designs and many others. Great for quick stitches to fill a bowl or decorate with, I think this will be a stand up when I finish it.

A picture taken by a friend from her house of the Knik Arm and Sleeping Lady in the background. (Picture heavy) I am trying my best to update my blog to be current with what I am working on but let’s face it. I just can't keep up. 2020 has not been kind and my needlework, now more than ever brings me just a bit more joy. So in an effort to share where I am and what I am doing, here we go. Last year was the year of gift stitching, and I literally spent the year working on Wedding gifts for two couples very dear to me. I let the brides - to - be pick the patterns and that is what I stitched last year. I am not a very good deadline stitcher- my life does not lend itself to that very easily- but I made great effort to stay on task and I got it done on time and delivered before the weddings. By then it was end of 2019 and about all I stitched after that was Christmas ornaments. I did however makes lots of plans of what I was going to stitch in 2020.
I have so many WIPs that I decided that no new big starts until the WIP pile was decreased at least a little. Lofty goals for someone like me who is a slow stitcher. I am however very stubborn and have so far resisted any temptation to start something new. I have a few to share. These are all long ago started, still very much loved and now they are finished. First up is Alpine Garden from
The Drawn Thread. This was long ago started (reallyI have no idea) and I made a mistake with the top tree line and into long term timeout it went. I finally pulled it out and finished it in 2020. One of my next finishes was Random Thought also by The Drawn Thread. This just needed me to finish the hemstitching in order to be done. Blogger will not let me upload that picture so that will have to be next time.
I have a big sampler, Mary Wigham that I have been working on forever. So in addition to that I am going to keep stitching on the BBD stockings, I may make them my lunch travel piece because they are easier to stitch in lower light. I need to pick 2 more from the pile.... it is such a huge pile. Finished little House Needlework Sheep Virtues. Loved stitching this piece. This a series of 12 sheep that was a SAL sponsored by the ladies of Shepherd’s Bush with a fabric and floss conversion they chose. I have loved stitching these. Each one felt like a finish.
Mary Wigham from Needleprint. This is done on 40 ct unknown linen with Belle Soie silks from a thread conversion by the ladies of the Attic. I love Quakers and have enjoyed the journey with this piece but I have set it aside far too long.
Stitched a wedding sampler for a young friend who is getting married and hard at work on a second one for my Brother-in-law. No pictures yet on those. I had a rotation going up until the weddings came along. Once I get the second wedding gift done I will go back to these Mary Wigham and a smaller design. This one is for my husband’s office. It is Michael’s Prayer- a Prayer for chaplains
I wanted to share with you a piece my best friend Elaine stitched for me for Christmas last year. I love it. I finally got some pictures of it so I could share with you and I am going to add it to my Craft Journal. I decided I need to keep a written journal of all my stitching and what I used to stitch it and when. I am having fun with it. We will see how it goes.

Now that it has been delivered I can share the little Lizzie Kate I did for a good friend who lost of beloved pup of many years. This is one of three frames the other two are their personal pictures that I won’t share but it just fit a little square part. And she was pleased with it.

I have been working on getting my stitching room organized aka the black hole. It is a mess. I started with fabric and moved onto threads. My DMC are baggies in numerical order. I was struggling with my Hand dyed fibers so they were next. They are in floss away bag in boxes in color name order and by company. Trying hard to keep them up to date.

I got a new app Xstitch, to keep up with my flosses and fabrics and what I need to purchase. I had one I had been using but unfortunately it was unable to keep up with the updates that the phone had so I lost all my inventory. I made a copy of the inventory of each kind this time so I have a paper copy this time. No more losing all that work again.

So finally all my threads are in the right box and organized. Now this is not all the thread but all I could find of the specialty threads. As I continue to dig out the black hole I am sure I will find more but this is the bulk of the overdyed cottons. My DMC are already in their place (again most of them) but have silks yet to go. But not that many of them so those won't be such a big deal.
After months and months of looking for all of my patterns to finish LHN Sheep Virtues that I started back in 2013 (I think) I decided to just keep stitching in the hope the last two would turn up. FINALLY thy turned up in the black hole of my stitching room. I am so happy to be able to make some progress on this one. This was done by the folks at Shepherd’s Bush and they changed up the fabric and fibers. I am loving it. I am getting close to a finish and that is wonderful!!!!

I apologize but blogger would not let me edit this from my iPad so I had to wait for my ancient laptop to open to be able to correct this last bit. I had more to share but since it is so hard to upload the photos I will end here and start the next one with more updates to come. If I could do this on my iPad I could get so much more done. But at any rate I hope you have some stitchy time in your day. Marjo

No more finishes yet but finally doing some small things make me feel like progress is being made.
On the sock front I am making slow progress. I still love the yarn colors. My only big problem with knitting is fixing my mistakes. Fortunately my sweet friend has been oh so patient with me slowly knitting these socks!
On the stitching front I have worked on the February BBD stockings. I love these little treasures. I have a couple of little trees I can decorate with these. Ideally someday I would like to make seasonal trees.i have collected patterns over time but I really need to get stitching! I have always wanted a Valentine tree, an Easter tree etc, my version of the bowl that I do not own and do not want to purchase.
I am starting a small Lizzie Kate design for two friends who recently lost their pets. My best friend found the perfect frame so I will get that from her in May but meanwhile really need to get started stitching on it. I don't have all the threads for it which with my stash is hard to believe but the color is not used a lot so I will just substitute DMC for as I have all but the newest colors of that. I have to pull some fabric so I can get started this next weekend.

I will leave you with a picture of the first sightings of bears that I have seen. I did not take this (I would not be even this close)
For the longest time I have wanted to pull out these small stockings from Blackbird Designs from quite a long time ago. I finished a couple of months of them and then moved onto something else. I had won this cute little bag from Stitches N things in Michigan and this project fits perfectly in it.

I decided to move this to the scroll frame because I was afraid I would never get the hoop marks out. I am trying to stitch from my WIP pile or at least from stash. I did cave and buy a project bag by Sew Much 2 Luv. This is sized a little bit bigger than the regular sized bag. It is a little deeper and will it hold a larger q-snaps as well as all the threads. This is where I am now! Finally a finish of one of my long term WIP’s. This is so exciting to me because I have a huge WIP as well as a huge stash and I love it all. (Sorry the ironing isn’t better but iron was not working correctly and I didn’t want to ruin my piece)!
I have been too sick to be able to do anything for the last two weeks. Wednesday I finally was able to get some stitching in and even a start on my long neglected second sock. I took the yarn and pattern with me, never got to work on it put the pattern away for safe keeping and promptly forgot where I put it. I did manage to at least make a start on when my friend kindly supplied me with the pattern again and as the way is with things I came home and found the original. Sigh.
I am so excited to be able to see all the new stuff, touch all the fabric and the walls of floss both cottons and silks at one of my favorite shops The Inspired needle.
I am still stitching on Mary Wigham. I got the frogging all done. I haven’t put the squirrel back in because it took me so long to get it out. I moved onto one of the flowers which is more of just an outline. I will have something to post next time on her.
I did make it stitch night before I left plus I was able to stitch on the second leg of our trip so I made some progress on Lizzie Kate’s Six Fat Men.

I go to my last installment of sock class tomorrow and get the toe cf my sock done! That will be the first one done. Hopefully number 2 will go faster. I am slower at knitting than I am at stitching and that is scary.
On the book front Crazy Like a Fox by Rita Mae Brown is almost done. There are just not enough hours in the day to get it all done. I will be able to get some reading done on our trip since my husband will be busy most of the time. I got two library books Body in the Casket by Katherine Hall Page and Witches Tree by M.C. Beaton. I also brought several from Amanda Lee who writes a cute Cozy series “an embroidery mystery”. I am lost in regards to which ones I have read and which ones I haven’t so will work on that this week. Will start my second sock! I have grand plans for this week. We will see how it goes. Back to Mary Wigham. Hope you find some stitchy time in your day. This New Year I made the decision to try my best to stitch from stash and focus on my WIP’s. So I have had no new starts and no new purchases from Santa. My goal is to finally get my stitching room cleaned up and functional again. So Mary Wigham is still getting all my free time and 6 Fat Men my stitching group time. No progress on the Lizzie Kate piece as I was sick this week and had to miss stitch night.that particular project has not seen the light of day.

Being sick left me with no energy but I was able do a little knitting. I am working on my first pain of socks. I am so slow at it! My friend, who is trying to teach me is such a fast knitter. I am a trial to her I am sure. Almost to the toe and ready to learn the final challenge the toe of the sock. I am using Malibrugio yarn in color Anniversario.

I just recently started watching Floss tube. I must admit I stayed up really late last night watching several and am totally hooked. Spent today listening to an older Monica Ferris book, Sins and Needles while I frogged Mary Wigham and knitted.

Trying to work out a plan to divide and conquer the absolute mess of my stitching room. I have more stash than I will ever stitch. I have organized most of my fabric, my over dyed cottons and my Belle Soie silks. I still have the other silks, beads to finish. I have gotten a friend to make some bags for me with extra fabric I bought that I will never get around to using. That cleared up some space. I moved a book shelf in there that fit in a closet but it is too small to hold my Needlework books. That is a current challenge. The room is small and there is no wall space for a bigger book shelf. I have so many books and love them all!

I need to go through all the charts and sell off what I no longer love enough to stitch. My WIP list-listed at the bottom right corner of the blog - I still want to stitch all of those and they are rather loosely grouped in bags in the stitching room. So much to do yet!
Well I have been frogging Mary while I wait for blogger to let me load photos of my progress and I still can’t load them so off to bed. Will try again tomorrow. I have been fighting with blogger for a while! I have never had this much trouble before. First I couldn’t get the photos to load and then I could not edit my typos! Too much, blogger! Finally several days later and it can be posted. Hope there is some stitchy time in your day! MarjoMarjohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15177576997394270951noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3091719348909944641.post-91290141759357391962017-12-31T16:45:00.000-08:002017-12-31T16:45:07.937-08:00New in the new yearYa’ll I am still undecided about what I am going to stitch in 2018!!!!!!! I just can’t make up my mind.
I can pull several charts I want to stitch from my embarrassingly large stash to come up with a new Start for 2018. But I am torn because I have an equally embarrassing large list of WIP list of things I want to finish. I have so many WIP that I really want to finish that in order to make a dent in that long list I need to concentrate on pulling work from it instead of starting new things that will add to the WIP list. I know that I want to finish Mary Wigham and 5 Fat Men by Lizzie Kate first out of the work basket. I have other Quakers started that will follow Mary and I will have to pull something from the WIP for a travel piece after 5 Fat Men are finished. Since lighting can be an issue my travel pieces are usually on a bigger count than my samplers and normally smaller in scope. But all that lovely stash just begging to be started! What to do! 2018 its just hours away...... I have got to make a decision. Sigh for now I am back to Mary Wigham and binge watching floss tube. Happy New Year’s Eve my stitchy friends. MarjoMarjohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15177576997394270951noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3091719348909944641.post-5538979111593575382017-12-28T09:00:00.000-08:002017-12-28T09:00:01.354-08:00Accessories old and newi love all my stitching tools. Many I have been gifted, many I have purchased. I must admit I love them all but these are some I use all the time to keep my WIP rotation organized.

On my stitching floor frame I keep this cute pincushion gifted by a fellow stitcher. I use this to park my needle in, to keep pins that I use to get knots out of my thread. Love the fabric and design. Next up are my stitching tins. The smallest was a gift and the other two are garage/consignment store finds.
Needle threader, beading needle, thread end catcher, beading thread, butler brush, decorative thimble, Shepherd’s Bush painted magnet I got on a trip out to Utah. Next up is the medium one which goes in my travel stitching that holds some larger items.

This has scissors, emery, thread, needles, straight pins on a teapot magnet, needle threader and card for floss bits. Next is the holiday tin which holds my ornaments to be stitched. Silent night by LHN is in the hoop. There is a magnet on lid, an old jar (think this was an old Avon jar that a scented cream came in of my Mom’s.)

My newest and most lovely accessory is my new stitching bag. All of my other bags are enormous and I seriously wanted something smaller to carry to my stitching group to force me just to carry no more than 2 projects at a time so I didn’t just go from one to the other with no finishes or lost parts or pieces which has been a terrible struggle for me this year. Trying really hard to get it all under control!

I have a roll-up for my bigger hoop project (Mary Wigham right now) so I don’t get hoop marks. This is something that I ordered from Attic Needlework. I don’t carry this project because I need good lighting to work on it so this is not a travel accessories. This picture shows the actual colors of my trave bag better than the previous picture does.
I wish I could say it was because I was so busy stitching but sadly that is not the case. 2017 has been a tough year on a lot of fronts for me but something made ,me decide today was the day to start again. It all started with computer problems as far as blogging went and from there it was a downhill rush. Brakes are on, back to stitching and blogging!
This is all about my current WIP’s and plans for next year. I have been drawn to pull out an older WIP of my favorite comfort stitch Quaker Mary Wigham is in the hoop.( Please forgive the wrinkles but I literally took it out of the hoop to take a progress picture to post.)
I have no idea when I started this pattern from Needleprint but I love stitching it and pick it up more and more frequently of late. I have just started the middle motif which is a bush sort of design with a large squirrel in the center. It calls for black on the leaves which I spent a bit of time checking because black leaves just looked wrong to me. I am doing this as a reproduction so black they will be but I thought maybe I had made a mistake with the symbol and did a double check. Mary is done on Lakesides linens buttercream (i think) and using a floss conversion by Attic Needlework. I am only on part 2 but I am trying to work on it a little every day.
Next up is my travel piece which currently is Lizzie Kate’s 6 Fat Men flip it patterns which are a fun stitch. They travel with me to my Thursday night Stiching group ( I love those ladies!!!!!). This is on 32 count Amber linen and WDW threads as called for on the Designs. I chose to stitch them all as one but they would be equally attractive as smalls in a snowman bowel or basket.
Those two are the only WIP’s currently getting any stitching time but in my next post I will have some new to me stitching accessories and some plans for 2018 to share. Excited to be back to blogging. Hope your day is full of stitch time! So glad to have that finally completed. It took so much longer than I thought it would. My favorite local needlework framer was able to hand cut a mat to cover all that white and even built a box so I could mail it. The final picture I got is not very clear as she already had it wrapped in plastic to be mailed when I got there to pick it up. But it is done.

Now for the moving on part. I went to my huge WIP progress pile to pull out something small that I could actually finish sometime soon with no pressure attached. I love to rotate projects but with the map I didn't do that for the last couple of years. I am hoping to get back to a rotation as that is the way I like to stitch. But I honestly have no rules about what I stitch.

So next up from the WIP pile is Little House Needleworks Sheep Virtues. This was a project I was working on before the map project started. It was done by the ladies at Shepherd's Bush as a SAL and they supplied fabric and thread conversion differently than charted. I love it. I originally was trying to do one a month but that changed with the map and it got put aside. I am having so much fun with it currently. I love the colors and the design.

I love Quakers and although they seem to not be as prevalent as they once were in designs I have several more to stitch and always have one or 2 going at the same time. Currently I have Mary Wigwam and Rose Quaker in the next to be stitched pile. Reminded that I had not updated the blog in a while so decided to work on it. I find the photo uploads a cumbersome process so not sure if it is blogger or my old laptop. I always enjoy sharing my stitching and seeing what everyone else is working on. Hope you have lots of stitchy time in your day. Marjo

Better late than never is all I can say. I am glad to be on the downward slope with this large project. I had to change up a few things to suit what she wanted and I am not a designer but I did the best I could and she approved so it's a go. Yes! So I last posted this is where I was. Restitching the coast and state of Alaska so it would be in approximately the correct geographical spot though not completely accurate (the state is much larger and farther up but I was out of fabric) The shadows you see are the pattern lying underneath. Sorry about that.
This shows some of the detail of the items I had to design for my sweet daughter in love. I could not find anything that would work in all of the books and the magazines so I just winged it. I did find some small animals that would work in Alaska for a moose and a caribou. I didn't have room to add more since there will be some hearts there to represent where they met. This week I will start the personalization. I know what it is going to say and the alphabet and colors are all picked out but I just wanted a break for this weekend. So I picked up some me stitching and got Rose Quaker out. This is something I have wanted to stitch for quite a while but put off till the map was done. I decided to pull it back out this weekend and add a few stitches.

I am stitching this on Lakeside Linens Strawflower 40ct with an NPI silk conversion from Attic Needlework in Phoenix, Arizona. I just love it. Makes me happy just to pick it up and add a stitch or two.
I don't know if I ever showed you the few little things I did get stitched as gifts in between times. This is a set of smalls I stitched for my best friend who lives on the East Coast who has a huge bread bowl that she changes out with smalls for the seasons. The top left is Lizzie Kate Hippity Hoppity, the others are all Shepherd's Bush Joy to Ewe, Friends, and Fall Ewe All. They were a fun stitch and I was happy to be finally contribute to her smalls.
Then another friend who had moved away from here had a birthday and this was a tiny sampler I stitched and got off in the mail to her- late as usual. It was from Kelmscott design that came as a kit. My friend has stitched several samplers and thought she would like this little thing. It was a fun stitch as well. Finishing is not my forte' so don't look too close. Well that is all I have for now. I will hopefully have an update from the Rose Quaker later this week and will post one last picture of the Map when it is matted before I mail it off to be framed by her grandfather.
We have continued to have computer issues that have kept me from updating but I am hoping they are all resolved and I can get back to posting more often. I hope you all have some stitchy time in your day.
Alas I started that and then put it away so I could get back to the Map of the USA. I am on the homeward stretch with the Map I am excited to say and hope to get some stitching time in this weekend and get even closer. I am currently putting the water (3 shades of blue) in around the coast line. I am on the last color of that then I need to fill in Alaska. I don't like the items the designer used for our state so I am using some from another pattern by Jeannette Douglas to fill in instead that I feel are more representative of the state. It currently has a miner's cap and an oil well but I am more in love with the eagles and other animals so I will substitute them instead. I then have to add the detail to the upper coastline (boats, crabs and fish) and then I just have the personalization to do. The end is in site of this multi-year project for me. I only get to stitch on Thursdays with my stitching ladies and then some on the weekends depending on my other commitments. Looking forward to someday having more time for my needlework.
I know it doesn't look like much but it is coming along and I hope to get a bit more done this weekend. I have done a little bit of crochet this week as this is a much more portable project than the map. I do also have a small scissor fob project that I carry with me to work on if I stop where there is enough light to see the count fabric. Since it is dark a lot of the time here at least while I am off work, the places I meet friends for tea are not brightly lit and so I have to choose my travel projects with that in mind. This week the blanket has gotten some love.
This picture does not do justice to the beauty of this spot even in Winter. I love to sit here and just look at the water. I love beaches but this one is particularly beautiful to me. Even with the water frozen it is beautiful. One of many happy spots I love. I frequently find beautiful spots and put a book on tape on to listen to and spend some time just stitching and soaking up the view. I hope this weekend finds some stitchy time for you in your days.
Going to add a few more stitches in before I am done for the day. I had too many chores to do to get my stitching done. I am hoping today brings more stitching time. Soon I will get back to the map. I am too easily distracted away from it after 2 years of working on it.
Last night I met a friend for tea after work. One thing about Alaska, there are coffee shops all over the place- we love hot drinks (and ice cream!). So when we get together we meet at a coffeeshop close to where I work and catch up over tea. It seems none of the local shops have much lighting so I typically take a non cross stitch project to work on when we meet over the winter. Come summer light is not an issue in Alaska. Plenty of sunshine all day long. This time I took a crochet baby blanket in progress for a coworker having her first baby. It took me a while to get the pattern down as I haven't done that pattern in a long time but I finally remembered how to make the turn. My best friend showed me how to do the stitch and it is a great travel piece. I just need to do one blanket ahead so I am not struggling to get something done on time for people that I want to gift a little handmade item for their little ones. Got a little bit of progress on this one.

That is something I have not done in absolutely years. So this year was my year for a new start. Having made that decision the question was what to start. I have plenty to choose from and could not make up my mind. I love stitching Quakers so thought I would get the Rose Quaker out and start it. Or I could pull out a WIP Mary Wigham? I have wanted to have the Rose Quaker stitched for quite a while so I went with that one. I enjoyed my brief time away from the Map but now I need to get back to it. I
I really enjoy reading other peoples blogs and seeing what different people are working on and what their choices are for fabric and threads.I really do enjoy it. I had so much I wanted to share and then my "antique Mac" died. Just wouldn't turn on, at all. Dead. Sigh. The budget wasn't going to absorb a new computer so it became that my husband and I would share a computer. That was all well and good, well except that he lives on the computer...yes, that is why I had my own to begin with. I remember now. We don't do well with one computer considering if he is home he is on the computer. Sigh. It has taken me a while to work this out but finally I have worked it out and I am back in blogging. Sorry, more than you wanted to know I am sure.

On the stitching front I have not gotten the Map of America done yet. Still working on it. It has been my focus for quite a while, over a year. I am on the downhill slope finally. This is a huge piece. I
always seem to gravitate to really big pieces. Always. This is big even for me. It seemed like it would go so fast when I started it. Ahem. Not so much. But I have persevered. I am done with the lower 48. I have the Hawaiian Islands completed and have the outline of Alaska completed. The end is in sight. I have to still do the personalization. I hope to be able to get a mat cut for it by our local framer. It is the Map of the USA by Sue Hillis on 36 count flax linen. It is a half yard of fabric. I am so late with this but it will get done.
So for 2015 I have very few finishes but lots of progress on my big design. This little pillows were a gift for my best friend to put in her grandmother's bread bowl.

We just spent the afternoon (not enough room for us to stay all night) and it was raining so we just gathered together and had fun watching the Eagle River flow by. It was a lot of fun and the company was awesome.
So the ERNC is about 10 miles from our house and is one edge of the Chugach State Park. There are 10 miles of trails that start there and many different views to be seen. We hiked in about 2 miles or so to one of several yurts available to rent in the Park.
At the turn in the path we came across the notice that bears had been seen in that area the day prior. They are all around out there but the particular path we were on runs by the river and in August every year it is closed due to high bear activity as that is when the salmon runs are ending and they can get lots of salmon little effort. They are very territorial when food is scarce and the sign says two bears (grizzlies) were acting aggressively toward each other in that area. All the years I have lived here I still am not fond of the bears. Brisk walking on towards the yurt for me.
We had planned to do a fire pit but the rain kept us inside. The park supplies the wood. We cooked our food over Sterno ovens and were careful to keep all the food away from the Yurt as much as possible. Bears have a strong sense of smell....we did cook S'mores over the sterno oven with metal tongs the Park provided in the Yurt. We made sure that all the crumbs were cleaned up and got the dog to do a final pass through for crumbs around the camp.
I am only getting small items or things that might be gifts for some of my favorite stitchers. I am quite taken with the small kits by Cherished Stitches. I am currently using the Winter one as my travel around so I got the Spring one as next up in the travel bag.
I love to shop Etsy especially for handmade stitching accessories. The fob is from TJB Designs
Next on Etsy I found this lovely Bird Needlebook. I loved the soft colors and the line drawing effect. The name of the Shop I found it at is Country Garden. Lovely items to look at there as well. The kit is the next in the Cherished Stitches Kit A Spring Gathering continuing on with the bird theme. These are fun stitches that have lots of nice colors and come with all you need including the fabric for finishing. Great to grab and go.
And last but not least is the next installment of Shepherd's Bush Fold a needleroll. It is the same lovely colors as the rest of the items in this series. These are another quick take along size pattern and easy to finish especially for someone like me whose is finishing challenged.
This is from our last stitching retreat that our little stitching group had last year. I wanted to share all the wonderful work that my friends were stitching on.

Retreat!!!!! Instead of a call to move back this was a long awaited call to dig in and stitch, stitch, stitch and stitch we did. There were finishes. There always are even when we have gone to one day retreats. I seem to always be working on such large things that finishes are few and far between for me but I love to see all of the ones everyone else has accomplished. It is always fun and inspiring to be with this bunch of ladies.

I took the map and was pleased to be able to spend some concentrated time stitching on it. I also took the Home Ornament that I wanted to finish since I had gotten the threads I needed. I also took a long time WIP that I really want to get done for myself but didn't spend a lot of time with it because I really want to get the gift stitching done. Like many people there is so much to stitch and so little time in the day to get it all done. For me it is soothing, for the most part anyway.

We had a great day. Lots of laughter, and for real a whole lot of stitching going on.

Hope you have a day full of stitchy time.
